The care coordinator program is becoming widely accepted as positive career development for qualified dental nurses and an effective marketing approach for dental practices.
Over a 9 month period, this programme will produce a qualified care coordinator and a new customer-care approach for your practice.
About The Qualification
The BTEC Advanced Diploma in Care Coordination allows experienced staff to train as a Care Coordinators. Existing oral health qualifications are designed to enable individuals to prevent dental problems. Many students holding such qualifications are frustrated because they do not have opportunities to use their training in their workplace this qualification is to enable such staff to add to practice profitability whilst enhancing their job satisfaction. The Award part of the BTEC (Business and Technology Education Council) Professional Development Award framework and is equivalent to an advanced GNVQ (level 3). The award is made through the Edexcel Foundation, which combined the skills and experience of two nationally recognised bodies. BTEC, a leading provider of applied vocational qualifications.
The qualification is the result the acknowledgement of students exiting knowledge and skills, plus the observation of skills applied in the workplace from the following four units.
Unit One: Aspects of Dental Care Education
This unit develops the knowledge needed to work effectively, as a patient care co-coordinator whilst operating within the internal and external frameworks arising from the professions legal and ethical standards. In addition the unit examines the scientific basis of oral health information, the history of health beliefs, health related behaviour change, cultural and political factors effecting health choices.
Unit Two: Planning Care Coodination
This unit develops planning and communication skills needed to interact with colleagues and patients in a professional manner, showing understanding and respect for individual’s points of view and compliance with legal obligations in respect of ethical marketing of dental services. Students will develop skills enabling their planning and organisational skills and learn how to present information to enable individuals to make informed choices based on a wide base of knowledge and understanding of the dental care options presented to them
Unit Three: Teamwork for Care Coodination
This unit focuses on the management of the care coodination system in your practice. Students learn how to set performance standards and to monitor progress toward those standards. They learn how produce objective and subjective data to evaluate results. Feedback collected is used to fine tune and strengthen the scheme and set future standards and targets
Unit Four: Care Coordination Skills
This unit requires the student to demonstrate application of learning throughout the course by performing a new patient interview whilst being observed by an assessor.
The student will need to demonstrate preparation, teamwork, communication, record keeping and evaluation skills. In addition they will need to demonstrate observation of the legal and ethical codes in place to ensure that patient’s rights are upheld
Generating Evidence
To gain the award learners are required to produce portfolio
Time Commitment
Approx. 8 hours personal study per week if BTEC qualification option is chosen.
Personal Study will run concurrent with day-to-day practice duties.
